Trigger is an approximately 2.5 year old brindle and white border collie. Seeking a new home due to a death in his family.
Here are some things we know about Trigger: He weighs 42 pounds. Date of birth is estimated as 5/17/2018.
He is good with most other dogs (including small dogs), has lived with cats, but previous owner felt they could not quite trust him because Trigger would stare the cat down and once carried the cat upstairs to the bedroom. The cat was not injured, but did not appreciate the ride. We do not know how Trigger is with children and he is still doing some puppy "mouthing" so we are seeking a home with no children or only older children.
We are working on the mouthing in his foster home by redirecting him to a soft toy, but he will need continued work on this. From wellmindedpets.com: "Mouthing," a.k.a. "play-biting" is a natural, instinctive way dogs play with each other. They explore the world with their mouths like we do with our hands. Mouthing is not aggressive, but can be irritating to humans. It can be misinterpreted as aggression.
This is a loyal dog that can be taken on off leash outings once he is bonded to you. He is terrified of gunfire or any type of shooting, so care must be taken during hunting season. Trigger knows how to 'sit', 'shake' and comes to his name. He is fine in a 4 foot high fence and does not dig. In his previous home Trigger slept on a bed in his owner's bedroom.
Trigger is a little growly in his communications with other dogs when food is around, so we recommend feeding him separately from other dogs. He will also growl at strangers until we tell him that'll do, this is a friend. For this reason we recommend not leaving him outside unattended if someone could be coming to the house. Trigger will bark when he sees something amiss, but is otherwise a quiet dog.
Nail trimming is a two person job right now. We are working on desensitizing him.
We consider Trigger housetrained. In his foster home he is crated while eating his meals, but we do not leave him in the crate when we leave the house as he tends to get agitated. We are able to leave Trigger alone in a gated, dog proof room when we leave the house. He respects the gate. Please note: In his previous home he did chew up a couch when left loose in the house alone. In his foster home he has been fine, but we leave him in the dog proof room.
We are hoping to find someone who is home a lot or works from home for Trigger. He is very devoted and a great home office companion. He also rides well in the car and loves to be your ride-along when possible.
Trigger's adoption fee is $275. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. If you are interested in possibly adopting him, please complete an application.
