Nilla is a female border collie mix about 6 years old and weighs 37 pounds. She was picked up as a stray in California’s Central Valley wearing a filthy and tattered bandana but no one claimed her. We’re not sure what her story is, but we can tell you Nilla is the sweetest, most loving and appreciative girl, and her foster mom says she is pretty much an ideal houseguest.
This gentle lady is housetrained, crate trained, doesn’t counter surf or beg, rarely barks, is fine with being confined, has not been at all destructive, and rides well in the car. She has been respectful of boundaries in the house even when they are just verbal and not physical. She’s good with other dogs, although she finds cats a bit too exciting for us to trust them together at this point. We do not know how Nilla is around children. Her natural herding instincts are apparent when she’s playing with balls or stuffed toys, and you’ll probably get tired of playing fetch long before she does!
When Nilla arrived she had a raging ear infection that is finally under control. She does seem to have suffered a slight hearing loss as a result of the long-term inflammation but it doesn’t seem to affect her at all except that it can sometimes take her a little while to determine exactly where a sound is coming from.
Nilla loves to be with her people. She has a medium energy level and settles well in the house without demanding constant entertainment. She enjoys chewing on bones and playing with stuffed toys and tennis balls, and would no doubt love the mental challenge of food puzzles and canine activities like scentwork as well. Nilla knows how to shake hands but would benefit from a good obedience class to further her education. We do not know how Nilla is around children.
Who's a good girl? Nilla is!
