BEAU is a gorgeous and energetic male Border Collie. He weighs about 45 pounds and is approx. 4 years old. He has a beautiful deep red (mahogany) rough coat.
Beau is one of the happiest dogs I've ever met. He loves toys and interacting with his person. He needs someone who will teach him a bunch of tricks and behaviors so he'll have more to do than just mindless fetching. He's attentive and has a great recall. He has an attitude of going through life expecting things to be great. He's adventuresome and wants a person who is also a lot of fun.
He has two major behavioral issues. One is that he has a deep seated food aggression issue with other dogs (NOT with people) so he needs to be an only dog. He doesn't start a fight to hurt the other dog, it's more like he just can't help himself. He gets along fine with other dogs when out hiking, but his person will need to know to avoid food or treats with another dog is present, and how to work with this behavior to help diminish it.
The other issue is that when in a crate, he can be a barker, and although he likes his crate and is fine being in one, when he decides he wants out he will chew his way out and is remarkably good at it.
He has been great with my senior, dog experienced cats, but I don't trust him yet with my kitten (erring on the side of caution as kittens are easy prey for many dogs).
Beau is great on walks and rides well in the car. He likes people and is friendly with everyone and has been solid in new environments and situations.
