BIO UPDATED 7/17/09 - VIDEO LINK IS BELOW Kiddo is a 6 month old medium coat purebred border collie pup. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on his vaccinations. Housebreaking is coming along nicely. Getting Kiddo into his crate can be a challenge, (we are working on it) but once there settles in nicely for the night. Kiddo comes to us from a stockdog breeders ranch in Southern Oregon. Kiddo has obviously had a rough start in life. He is submissive and arrived in foster care 'hand shy'. The longer he has been in foster care the more confident he is becoming. He is evolving into quite the little character. Kiddo needs a quiet consistant home (preferably with another dog) where he will not be left alone for long periods of time. Being with people who are commited to building his confidence and will be rewarded with a steadfast dedicated little buddy. In spite of his past Kiddo hasn't met a person he didnt like instantly, he is an affectionate & loving little guy. He prefers to be with you at all times, to the point one has to push him out the door to do his business. That will change when he is sure he will not be abandoned again. Kiddo gets along beautifully with all dogs, although he has not been tested on cats. Kiddo is learning basic obedience commands, such as sit, lie down, & stay. His recall is a work in progress. When we had the rest of the pack on our daily walk at the river we kept a long drag line on Kid. While he did wander sniffing and exploring he wouldn't get beyond 50 yards away, the minute we were out of eyesight he came running. We will continue to work on a reliable recall with positive reinforcement and praise. UPDATE: Kiddo has been tested on sheep and shows tremendous natural talent. The minute Kiddo spotted the sheep his submissive behavior vanished. He has alot of eye, but not sticky. He is a very stylish pup. He is enthusiastic, intense, and focused. This little guy is a diamond in the rough waiting for a connection with an experienced handler who can help him build confidence outside of the sheep pen. If you are looking for a rescue dog to train on stock or possibly trial with, don't let this pup pass you by. He is a very young pup and has 15+ years ahead of him. He needs to be a member of your family & be included in family activities. Kiddo needs to be near his humans and sleep indoors where it is safe and warm. He will need ongoing socialization with humans and animals so his world will continue to expand. He is very smart and eager to learn. Remember having a dog in your life is never cheap. There are always unexpected costs and expenses such as emergency medical care. Kiddo will need a good quality food such as Canidae, training classes and regular vet checks.
