In other words small enough so that you can hold him under one arm, but he gets a bit heavy. He weighs 37 pounds, but that is deceptively heavy for his size, visually he looks like he weighs about 20 pounds. He is 6 years old.

He is very friendly, has a great personality, and loves people. He LOVES tummy rubs and has a very happy outlook on life. He is sweet and cute and joyful and a wonderful companion. He loves to tag along everywhere with me and would be a great gardening and farm chore buddy. Also hiking if it were not super strenuous.

He gets along great with all the other dogs here and is not the type to cause trouble. So far he does not seem to be looking for a dog to be best friends with. He prefers people to dogs and what he really wants is a best pal and partner in mild crime of the cuddly human variety. He rides great in the car and is great on leash, so he is easy to take everywhere.

He has also been very good with my cats, pretty much just giving them a sniff and moving on.

Even though Davey apparently lived outside most of the time at his previous home, he has been great indoors here – no accidents at all. As with all my adoptions I will not consider an outdoor home. I believe dogs are true family members and should spend the same ratio of indoor/outdoor time as their people do.

His last home reported that he loves to play in the water. I’m not sure if this means the garden hose or swimming. Because he was suffering from a long term untreated ear infection (probably as a result of eating grocery store full-of-corn-and-byproduct food), which is responding nicely to treatment, I do not want to get his ears wet inside so I have not had him near water. Because he’s somewhat sensitive about his ears (not snappy at all, just used to them hurting), he will not be placed in a home with small children.

He likes toys also and really enjoys anything that involves fun with his person. Now that his ears are feeling better, he has become happy and silly and a wonderfully enjoyable dog. He is very smart and picked up the routine around here very quickly. He is great off leash in my rural setting (that does NOT mean that he would be fine in a yard with no fence).

His coat looks pretty bad right now, no doubt a result of the aforementioned bad nutrition. Its all rather dry and dull, but now that he is getting good food, that should improve. He will be gorgeous once it comes in healthy and shiny and judging from the plume on his tail, it may also be a bit longer.

Davey wants me to add that he would like a comfy soft bed, a cool collar he can be proud of, something squeaky, and a person who likes to snuggle.

Davey is crate trained, neutered, current on vaccines and microchipped.

If you are interested in giving Davey a permanent home:

FIRST: research Border Collies, Shetland Sheepdogs and Aust. Cattle Dogs.

THEN: fill out the application available online by clicking on the link under Davey’s big photo.

THEN: contact Ravensgate Border Collie Rescue at 360-387-5811 or ravensgate@foxinternet.net

If I don’t get back to you within 24 hours, keep trying.

If you leave me a voice message, PLEASE speak clearly and slowly repeat your phone number (cell phones leave awful messages on land phones!!).

I cannot return calls if your phone does not accept blocked calls.

Let me know how late I can call.

Please note: I work to find each dog the home that meets their individual needs. They (the dogs) are my clients, and my “customers”, not people. My process is not “first come, first served”. I am not trying to place each dog as-fast-as-possible, but rather doing my best to ensure that when I choose a home for one of my beloved fosterdogs, that it is one that will deserve and earn the priviledge of having that dog as a family member, and will prioritize their needs with the same dedication that is afforded to all family members.

http://bcbordercollies.moonfruit.com/#/the-kid-myth/4531402542

Oh, Mom says to tell you all that some ding dong docked my tail so I do whole butt wiggles, not just a tail, it's much better she says. If you are really active, and want a pretty girl to hang and be your buddy give mom a call or email her. 509-760-0699 bc.aussierescue@yahoo.com

>

PLEASE READ ENTIRE POSTING BEFORE FILLING OUT AN APPLICATION !!

SUMMER - born june 26, 2010

Summer is 7 weeks old as of posting date. She is from a ranch breeder who sells their puppies at 5 weeks old. Shocking, I know. Summer was purchased at 5 weeks, and turned into rescue at 6 weeks because she was a very hard to handle puppy. And yet the breeder thinks that they know better than all the experts who say how important it it so keep the litter together until at least 8-9 weeks. Little Summer's biggest issue was that she had zero bite inhibition with people. She has always been perfecty appropriate with other dogs and is very kind and submissive with my cats, but with people she was extremely mouthy and bit hard.

She has greatly improved, and is learning to chew her kong toy instead of hands, but will not be adopted to any but a VERY experienced home. By this I mean someone who understands operant conditioning and behavior training. She is not appropriate for homes with young children. Please list your dog training credentials in the application if you are interested in adopting Summer.

Her markings are tri-color with lots of brown. Her nose has already filled in more with black since these photos were taken. All photos are at 6 weeks.

She is from two working parents on a cattle ranch in Ellensburg.

She is pretty bold and adventuresome in the house and outdoors, with lots of energy. She is nicely crate trained and does not poop in her crate, but at this young age does not have the ability to hold her bladder for more than a very short time.

She is adventuresome and gets into EVERYTHING. She requires total supervision.

She is not a snuggle-bug kind of puppy. She will sleep on my lap, but only when she is really tired. She has gotten better with being held, but it has taken some effort and patience.

Make no mistake, this is a tough little dog. She is funny, playful and adorable yes, but she is also dead serious if you try to take something from her that she wants to have. As an example, I removed her from eating out of a pan of horse grain and she went totally stiff and growled seriously. This is not average puppy behavior. This behavior will progress to resource aggression with people if not handled properly

On the good side, she is the kind of dog who will excel in Agility, other sports or herding. She has no fear and a ton of self confidence. Strange surfaces do not bother her, she is great for car rides (in a crate) and she is very smart.

She will require postive obedience classes and interested parties should be prepared to tell me where they will take classes and why they chose that particular facility.

Summer will not be adopted out until she is 9 weeks old.

If you are interested in giving Summer a permanent home:

FIRST: research Border Collies

THEN: fill out the application available online by clicking on the link under Summer’s big photo.

I am not trying to place each dog as-fast-as-possible, but rather doing my best to ensure that when I choose a home for one of my beloved fosterdogs, that it is one that will deserve and earn the priviledge of having that dog as a family member, and will prioritize their needs with the same dedication that is afforded to all family members.

http://bcbordercollies.moonfruit.com/#/the-kid-myth/4531402542

eileen @ ravensgate border collie rescue 360-387-5811 ravensgate@foxinternet.net

>

LUCY is a 1 ½ year old female Farm Collie, probably Border Collie/Australian Shepherd. She weighs about 48 pounds and is a beautiful and unusual color, I guess I would call it fawn sable.

She is smart and fun to train, and its easy to keep her attention and focus. She needs a good positive beginning obedience class, which will be fun becasue she is so smart. After a class or two of basic obedience, she would probably love to try agility or rally ! She needs a person who wants to "do a lot of stuff with the dog" - hiking, tricks, behaviors, teaching, etc.

At her previous home, Lucy dug into the chicken pen and killed several chickens. I have not had an issue with her and my chickens, but I have a good secure pen and I don’t leave her unattended outside.

She also had one incident where she chased a cat and got hold of it with her mouth. The cat got away and was unhurt, but due to this I am firm on a no-cat home for Lucy.

Lucy needs things to do to occupy her very smart brain and is not a dog to be just left to make up her own fun. If left outside alone, she is very capable of getting into trouble either at home or in the neighborhood. She needs a home with a secure fence and a person who will spend time with her, both indoors and out.

Lucy is crate trained, spayed, current on shots and microchipped.

If you are interested in giving Lucy a permanent home:

FIRST: research Border Collies

THEN: fill out the application available online by clicking on the link under Lucy’s big photo.

>
Oreo is a smooth coated border collie with maybe a bit of McNab in her. She is just a year old. She is spayed and up to date on vaccines.
Oreo is a bit shy and slow to warm up to new people and new situations. She would do best in a home that does not have small children or lots of other animals. Oreo will require a patient person to guide her into her new life. She knows some commands. Oreo crates well at night and loves to have a big yard to zoom around.

Oreo has lived with other dogs her own size. She can be a bit bossy so a non alpha house mate would be recommended

If you are interested in Oreo, please complete an on line application and then contact her foster Mom, Robin at bcmama@frontier.com.
Between 9/5-9/13 no email access is available -- please be patient for a reply. Thank you.
Adoption fee is $100 which will go towards her vet bills.

>

LEIF is one of the handsomest dogs I’ve had in rescue, and that encompasses a LOT of dogs. He has that wonderful mix of being rugged handsome and having a face that’s kissably sweet. Right now his coat is pretty much crap, a result of living outside 24/7 and being sun bleached and probably eating a less than optimum diet. When his new coat comes in he will be stunning. The markings on his head are black and so is his nose leather, but his body is darkest brown and some parts are a black/brown mix. I don’t know if this is his true color or if it’s a result of the sun, only time will tell. He is blowing his whole coat so he will likely look a bit scraggly before he looks better.

Leif (rhymes with safe) is about 2 years old but basically he is an 8 week old puppy, just starting the journey of learning what life is all about. His former life does not matter as whatever it was, he deserves better. Lesson number one – people are nice and people are fun. He is already making big progress and once this lesson is learned, the world will be his Scooby-snack. He has started to do joyous puppy-scoots around the yard and is becoming a happier dog every day.

He loves other dogs and he has come a long way by watching and learning from my happy dogs. To continue his transition and never-look-back, Leif needs a home with another playful, confident dog (I am firm on this). He needs people who understand the balance of nurture/protect but without coddling and building confidence without simply shoving the dog into new situations. He is wary of hands coming at him, and as he continues to learn about living the "full life" he deserves, its best that he not live with small kids as that would be more than is fair for him to cope with.

For his new person, Leif will be the kind of dog that changes your mind about just how truly amazing dogs are. The kind that makes you say “If dogs don’t go to heaven, then I don’t want to go there either.” I guess you can kind of tell that I like Leif A LOT. I love it when he runs to me with a big smile on his handsome face and WANTS me to pet him now, as compared with being afraid of every little hand movement like he was when he first came. He is getting so affectionate and with a little more time will be a big snuggle-bug.

Leif’s new person must be able to demonstrate that they understand reward based positive training methods. They must be the type of person who wants to both love and be loved by a dog.

Leif walks nicely on a leash and will stop pulling with the smallest mild correction. He rides perfectly in the car and lays quietly while in motion. His recall is very good out here (not many distractions), when I whistle and pat my leg he comes right to me. He gets along great with all the other dogs here and has been pretty good with my cats, but requires diligent supervision and reminding. I believe he can learn not to bother the cats, but it might be easier to just be in a no-cat home.

He used to lift his leg frequently to mark, but as he was left outside all the time and unneutered, this is normal. He has now been neutered, and I simply guide him to what is OK to pee on and prevent him from marking what is not appropriate. He is learning fast and wants to please. He has not marked in the house, but I watch him carefully. He is very smart and all he needs is consistency and clarity and he picks up things very fast.

Leif is neutered, current on shots, crate trained and microchipped. His adoption fee is $200.00

If you are interested in giving Leif a permanent home:

FIRST: research Border Collies

THEN: fill out the application available online by clicking on the link under Leif’s big photo.

THEN: contact Ravensgate Border Collie Rescue at 360-387-5811 or ravensgate@foxinternet.net

If I don’t get back to you within 24 hours, keep trying.

If you leave me a voice message, PLEASE speak clearly and slowly and repeat your phone number (cell phones leave awful messages on land phones!! and I don’t have VM, just an old answering machine).

I cannot return calls if your phone does not accept blocked calls.

Let me know how late I can call.

Please note: I work to find each dog the home that meets their individual needs. They (the dogs) are my clients and my “customers”, not people. My process is not “first come, first served”. I am not trying to place each dog as-fast-as-possible, but rather doing my best to ensure that when I choose a home for one of my beloved foster dogs, that it is one that will deserve and earn the privilege of having that dog as a family member, and will prioritize their needs with the same dedication that is afforded to all family members.

>

GAVIN is a male short coated Border Collie. He is 1 ½ years old.

He is a very “herdy” kind of Border Collie. He has a hard time ignoring any stock that he can see. Most of my foster dogs ignore my horses even though their play yard borders the pasture with about 50’ of fence line. Gavin watches them all the time and gets very excited and serious if they come up to the fence. If it was a 4’ stock fence, he would probably jump over, but it’s a 5’ dog fence. I took him out to see how he did on sheep and he got good grades. He has a sense of balance and is very keen. Once he settled in he was very good about keeping out at a balance point and keeping the group together.

This keenness is very good on stock, but will cause problems if his home is not properly fenced and he can get to a neighbor’s livestock.

He LOVES his toys and could be trained to be a detection dog. He’s not a casual pet, he needs some kind of a job. He has exceptional hearing or perhaps smell, because in his previous home he found a water leak dripping inside of a wall. He repeatedly continued to lay in front of the wall and stare at it until they got so curious that they opened up the wall to see what was there and found the small leak. After they fixed it, he never stared at the wall again.

Gavin loves to play with other dogs once he gets to know them, but he is not good at meeting other dogs if they come right up in his face. He also needs some confidence building being out and about and meeting new people in the right way. He doesn’t do well with direct eye contact and people who need to get too close too fast.

For the above reasons, he will need to be in a home with an experienced person (not just someone who has had dogs before, but someone who understands and has corrected behavior issues).

Gavin LOVES his person and is sweet and cuddly and a totally awesome dog when in his comfort zone. He just needs a bit of help to expand that zone. He is wonderfully athletic and agility would be a great way to help him gain confidence. He has been good with my cats but is too easily over-focused on the chickens. I would not trust him loose with chickens.

A herding home would be wonderful for him, but only with someone who has the ability to start a dog from scratch, or knows someone who can. He could also be a great goose control dog, or detection dog.

He is the kind of dog that bonds very tightly with his person and can have that kind of person/dog relationship that changes people’s minds about whether or not dogs have souls.

Gavin is neutered, current on shots, crate trained, and microchipped.

If you are interested in giving Gavin a permanent home:

FIRST: research Border Collies

THEN: fill out the application available online by clicking on the link under Gavin’s big photo.

Last Update: Mon, 08 Feb 2010 16:42:22 -0800
DogId: Alpin (WA#3131)
Gender: M
Age: 2 yr - 5 yrs
Location: Snohomish, WA
Special Needs:
Alpin is what's considered as a rough-coat border collie, and needs occasional brushing. If you can brush him weekly, it'll help keep his coat looking wonderful... he gets wary of the brush if it gets tangled. He is 2-1/2 years old, and was just neutered. The first two photos are of him now, and the third is of him as a puppy. He has remained in only one home, but his owner is now losing it and needs to rehome him.

Alpin is a rowdy boy, who would love nothing better than to play fetch or race in circles around the perimeter of your yard all day. He needs an active life. Right now he spends most of the day inside, with trips outdoors for a good run several times a day to wear off his energy. Inside, he's content to chew on a bone or toy, or slurp lots of water. He is potty-trained and has never had an accident in the house. He is also crate trained, which I would recommend doing at first until you are sure that he's comfortable with your home. Alpin sleeps inside at night, usually on a doggy bed, but hops up on my bed when invited. He is also a wonderful snuggler at night, and has provided to be a great backwarmer.

Alpin grew up on a small farm in the country,
and hasn't had much exposure to city life, people, other dogs, or
many new situations. In his present home, he will bark when he sees a coyote come near the fence, or a person or dog come onto the property. This is not conducive for good socialization, however, and so he will need a strong lead when exposed to new circumstances, people, and situations. He gets fearful of all of them, and needs someone to be patient with him and a good leader. But, Alpin would love to have
someone to gently expose him to things outside of his sphere.

Alpin would do
okay if integrated into a home with another dog, but please understand
that since he is a bit shy but also bossy, it may take some time for him to feel safe and
comfortable. He craves self-esteem building and attention, and
needs an environment to feel safe in. He would probably be best as a
single dog, unless your dog is patient, kind, gentle, and can be a good
mentor for him.

I
have had Alpin around older children, but kids' noise and quick movements
scare him, so I would NOT recommend that he be placed in a household
with children. He has been around cats in his first year and did
well in an indoor situation, but hasn't been exposed to kitties lately.

Alpin rides well in a car, doesn't pull on a leash, and knows
his basic sit/stay/come/lie down/off/GoodBoy! commands. His favorite toy is a small rubber football, which he will chase after and retrieve for hours. He's also nuts about fetching a tennis ball, and will carry it around for hours if you ignore him. He has been exposed to sheep and would do well in a home with hobby sheep, or with someone that can take him weekly for herding lessons. If you are interested in using him for sheep, though, know that he is just a beginner in his training and has a long way to go. In the field away from sheep, we have practiced herding commands of Away, Lie, and That'll Do.

I would not EVER recommending taking Alpin to a dog park off-leash, as
he will try to herd other dogs and be aggressive if they don't comply.
You must keep in mind that he is of a herding breed, and keep him in
safe situations for him. For the same reason I would not recommend him
in agility... he'd ignore the course and try to herd the other dogs.
He really needs a good owner to give him training one-on-one. [Update on this, 2-1-2010: Since we have rehomed two of our other border collies, Alpin has settled down greatly and is becoming much more friendly to other dogs. He does well with our foster dogs that we have had, and might respond will to you with a little more training. He's getting much better at ignoring distrations (poultry, people, dogs) and listening to direction a lot more in the field.]

If you
are interested in meeting this boy, please contact Claire at
ctalltree@yahoo.com. The adoption fee is $200, which covers all
vaccinations, spaying, his pet license, and microchipping by Avid. Her owner
is losing her home, and that is why Alpin is now up for adoption. Do
you have room for this sweet dog in your home and your heart?

Please
Meet Katy!!!

Katy
is a super sweet, female, Australian Shepherd mix. Katy is about 4 years old, spayed
and current on standard vaccinations. Katy
is about 40 pounds and medium sized.

Katy
is a very happy, easy going dog that loves all people, enjoys car rides and
going for walks. She’s well-mannered in the house and is often content to
snooze quietly on her rug near you. Katy is house trained and also crate
trained. She willingly goes in and out
of her crate. Katy knows some basic obedience commands but could use
a good refresher course with her new person(s). Katy gets along well with our
dogs, loves kids, but we don’t know about cats as we don’t have any.

Katy
has never really had anything in all her short life. She spent most of her 4 years on a short
chain tied to a dog house. Katy's former owner is now no longer able to care for her due to a disability. Katy is a
fantastic little dog that ready to find the perfect forever home she
deserves. All she needs is someone to love. She’ll make a wonderful
companion and will make her new family very happy!

If
you’d like to meet Katy, please contact her foster dad Mike at thatlldo@elltel.net for an
application. Katy’s adoption donation is $100.00 payable to Yakima
Valley Pet Rescue (501 3c) and she is being fostered in Selah WA, which is
about the middle of the state.

I don't watch the sheep, I watch her all the time lookin' for her smile and an invitation to sit at her feet. I can't take any kind of pressure or corrections - my desire to work livestock is just not strong enough - so when she has to tell me to do something different I quit and leave the field. All I want is for her to pet me, love me and throw the ball. She loves me very much which is why she is going to find me a very special home where my family can be the center of my world. That is all I want...not a bunch of stinky old sheep.

You see, I just want to be with you. I am a really 'soft' dog. I want to love you. I want to play ball with you. I want to sit by your side, gaze up in your eyes and tell you how much I love you with my eyeball peepers...that is what I am really good at. I would like a active home with people who will take me on hikes, car rides & other fun adventures. Another dog would be good too.

I wont pee in your house. I like to do my business outside. I don't bark much either, except when people I don't know come over - then I am happy the minute they touch me. I am not a very good watch dog. If that is what you need then pass me up - cuz I love everyone. I am good with older kids and other dogs. Never been around the little humans a lot - so I cant say how I would be. The lady that feeds me thinks I would be good with them because I have met and played very nice with a four year old more than once. I am okay with the barn cat. Haven't tried to eat him - so she thinks I would be 'okay' with kitties. Did I mention that I am very good with all other dogs? Old ones, puppy ones, different ones. I like dogs.

I know sit, stay there, that'll do, come here, lie down. I know push and pull to help open doors. I am a gentleman on leash. I am also a fetching fool. All the pictures you see of me looking intense I am watching a ball waiting for it to be thrown.

This week I am getting denuttered...err, I mean neutered. You know, they are taking my boy bits off. That is okay cuz I wont be missin' them. All of my shots are up to date and I am a very happy, healthy boy without any baggage or issues.

I just want a family of my very own...no sheep please...just hugs, pats and smiles.

If you are interested in giving me a home for the rest of my life please fill out an application and contact cjharwell@comcast.net or call 253.590.6910. My adoption donation is $200.00 and that covers my neuter surgery, vaccinations and microchip.

He is about 4 years old.

He is a wonderful dog, very solidly housetrained in the house – he doesn’t get into things he shouldn’t and has never had a potty accident. In his previous home he was left in the house up to 12 hours and never had an accident.

He likes people after getting to know them for about 5 minutes. He is not effusive in his affection in that he does not lick or jump up on people, but is affectionate in a rather dignified manner with strangers. Once he get to know you, he is very affectionate and snuggly.

He likes to cuddle on the couch to watch TV or sit at your feet while you do computer stuff. He rides great in the car and is used to going places in the car. He has been great at the dog park.

Rhaq is very smart and did well in a basic obedience class. He mastered the basics easily (sit, down, stand, stay) and also knows “leave it”, how to sit and wait for food until you say “OK”, and wait at the door until he gets permission to go out. He picks up things quickly, and it will be fun to teach him new tricks and expand his vocabulary.

He gets along great with other dogs and loves to play but might play a little rough for a timid dog. Very “zippy” dogs seem to bring out a rougher play style in him, in less intense dogs he mainly likes to play in a “chase and be chased” style. He also likes it if I run around and he can run with me.

He is pretty focused on my cats so I don’t feel he should go to a home with cats.

He needs a fairly rural home setting – not necessarily a farm, but not the city. He did not do well in a city setting in his previous home. I also feel that a home with small kids will be too frenetic for him.

He loves to go for walks, but like I stated, not in a urban or crowded suburban setting. With gradual exposure, he will get better at coping with the onslaught of sounds and smells of crowded living, but he’s not there yet. He does pull slightly on a leash.

He will be a wonderful hiking or mountain biking buddy and best pal. He is built rather like a setter, and covers a lot of ground when he runs even though it doesn’t always look like he’s moving really fast.

Rhaq is crate trained, neutered, current on shots and microchipped.

If you are interested in giving Rhaq a permanent home:

FIRST: research Border Collies/Australian Shepherds.

THEN: fill out the application available online by clicking on the link under Rhaq’s big photo.

>

SIERRA is a gorgeous girl, probably a Shetland Sheepdog (Sheltie) mix (maybe Sheltie/Border Collie, maybe Sheltie/Aussie). She is a small, zippy version of an Old Fashioned Farm Collie.

Sierra weighs about 25 pounds, is about one year old, and is a beautiful sable color with tan freckled feet. She is fast, quick, light on her feet, and very athletic. Can anyone say A-G-I-L-I-T-Y ?? This girl would be a wonderful sport dog and I would love to find an agility home for her. She would also be a fantastic freestyle dog.

She is VERY energetic and very bouncy. She just needs someone to channel that intelligent energy (not just hours of brainless OCD ball-fetching, thank you very much!). She is a very smart dog who would love to learn lots of tricks and behaviors and help with farm chores, etc. She would be a great hiking companion, on the road buddy, and all-around pal. She is NOT a casual pet or a little kid’s playmate – she is a LOT of dog! I have added a "no small children" icon to her posting not because I think she might bight a kid, but because I think living with "kid energy" in the house (frenetic comings and goings) would be too overstimulating for her. (Please read "The Kid Myth" at http://bcbordercollies.moonfruit.com/#/the-kid-myth/4531402542 ).
Sierra can be a bit barky at other dogs, but is learning to meet and greet quietly and has already improved on this. She needs to attend a good, positive obedience class to continue with learning all the good manners she is getting started with here.

I see a lot of my own Sheltie in little Sierra. He was just like her when I first got him – overly excitable at new things, too barky, and friendly but not “connected” with people. With a little patience and some work, he has turned into the most amazing dog, who goes everywhere with me and is loved by everyone. Sierra will be that way too, with someone who is willing to put out a little effort. Someone told me once that Shelties have to decide for themselves who they will give their heart to and once they do, they give it completely. I think that is true and Sierra’s “heart-person” will be very lucky.

Sierra walks nicely on the leash, and rides well in the car. She has not tried to dig out or jump over the fence which is 5-6’. She has been very good with my cats – she sniffs them but does not try to engage in play or bully them.

Sierra is crate trained, spayed, and current on shots. She is also microchipped.

If you are interested in giving Sierra a permanent home:

FIRST: research Border Collies and Shetland Sheepdogs.

THEN: fill out the application available online by clicking on the link under Sierra’s big photo.
